For familes

We organise fun social events and activities throughout the year for the whole family which provide an opportunity for families to meet, gain support and form friendships in an environment of acceptance and understanding.

With the help of our volunteers, our activities provide a great opportunity for our children with special needs and their siblings to have fun together while their parents/carers have chance to chat and relax. Our events are friendly and informal, the pressure of caring for your child is shared and the difficulties understood.

Drop Ins

We hold drop ins once a month during term time. Open to all our members from new parents and families right through to parents and families of adult children. Drop Ins provide an opportunity to meet other parents who understand the issues of having a child with special needs. It’s a place to unwind over a cup of tea, share concerns and worries when life gets on top of you or just catch up with friends. There is always someone there to talk to, no matter what age your child. Toys are available if you’re bringing little ones and tea, coffee and home-made cake are up from grabs!!!! See our events calendar for more details.

Saturday Socials

We hold monthly ‘Saturday Socials’ at La Moye Youth Centre from 2 to 4.30pm. These are open to all our members, whatever age their children. Activities vary from month to month but we aim to include a bouncy castle, crafts, baking, the use of computers, pool table, table-top football and various other games. We use the big hall exclusively for our young 'Little Injuns' between 2 and 3pm, thereafter it is open to all. Children are more than welcome to bring along their own toys or activities from home but do so at their own risk!!
All the family is welcome to come along for the whole afternoon or just to ‘pop in’ for however long they want. It’s a great opportunity for our children with special needs to socialise and their siblings to get to know one another while parents relax and chat.

Communication Through Movement

Communication Through Movement sessions are held approximately once a month. They are a great interactive opportunity for a small group of children and parents to enjoy moving to music using ribbons, scarves, a large ‘elastic band’ and a wonderful silk parachute. They enable children and adults to connect and communicate in a way which is not easily done out of this environment. After each session refreshments are enjoyed and parents are given an opportunity to talk about how the session went. This allows the sessions to be tailored to the families’ needs.

Little Injuns

We aim to provide some age appropriate events throughout the year just for our families who have babies or children with a special need under 7 years old. Our Little Injuns group provides Easter and Christmas parties and a Teddy Bears’ picnic in the summer. All the family is welcome to come; Mum, Dad, children with special needs and their siblings - Granny, Grandad too if you want!

School Holiday Events

We organise a family event each half term for example ten-pin bowling or lunch and a swim at Beau Sejour.

Summer Holidays

During the summer holidays we hold weekly socials at the Western Community Centre, ‘Styx’ on Tuesdays from 2 to 5pm. These are open to all our members. There are different activities each week but we aim to include craft, toys and games for the children as well as refreshments for everyone. With the park available when the rain holds off, there is something for everyone!

Annual Events

Bike Ride and Picnic

One of our annual events enjoyed by our members during the summer holidays is a picnic and the sole use of the Go-Kart track where the children (and adults!) have fun riding their bikes in safety.

Fun evening at Oatlands

Our members also enjoy an evening of crazy golf, fun games and a picnic at Oatlands in the summer.

Once every two years we aim to organise a trip for the whole group to enjoy an overnight stay in Jersey. We understand how difficult it can be to go away when you have a child with special needs.  This trip enables our families to travel in confidence knowing they have the support of other families and volunteers.  Generous funding in previous years has enabled us to subsidise the cost of this trip substantially.
