The Friends of St. Martins Day Service was set up in February 2011 to provide assistance to the Adult Disability Day Service. It has funded various equipment for the Day Service and holds The Drop Inn Club which provides four drop-in sessions each week around the Island for adults with learning difficulties to socialise, meet new friends and take part in activities.
Founded by Guernsey Mencap, Grow Limited opened in 1989 to provide training and sheltered work for people with a learning disability in horticulture and related craft industries.
The Guernsey Disability Alliance was formed in 2008. Its membership includes representatives from over 30 local disability charities, plus individual disabled people. They have joined forces to speak with one voice about the issues disabled islanders have in common. Their mission is equality for disabled islanders.
Affiliated to National MENCAP, the local association employs an advocacy worker and operates a befrienders scheme based at the St Martins Community Centre. The Guernsey Mencap Committee meets monthly and reviews requests from individuals who may require financial or personal assistance.
Home-Start is a charity aimed at providing help and support to families with children under five years old. Trained volunteers within the home offer support and friendship. The group aims to offer support, friendship and practical assistance in helping families develop their strengths and emotional well being to the ultimate benefit of their children.
